POLLEN OF WORDS
1998 - 2006
Nylon floss / words on plastic film
approx 160 x room height x 130 cm
A cluster of words typed on bits of plastic film is attached to a crisscross of threads stretched between ceiling and floor. The words are keywords to me taken from everyday conversation and from prose and poems of Rose Ausländer, Erich Fried, Max Frisch and others. Removed from their original context, they interact with each other and with the mind of the onlooker. Each time this sculpture has been installed, it changed shape as new words replaced some older words.
Immer von neuem sterben
und auferstehn
Die Fremde meine Heimat
Unbekannte meine Geschwister
Ich bin eine Tote
Die lebt
und das Leben liebt
Rose Ausländer (1901 - 1988)
in English:
Dying time after time
and rising again
Foreign parts my home
Strangers my brothers and sisters
I died
and am alive
in love with life
